Reading: This week will complete our first unit reading unit called "Building a Community of Readers." The students will be creating a poster showing what good readers do. I will be posting them here once they are complete.
Writing: Recently in writing we have focused on nouns, verbs, adjectives, and similes. Students were taught what each kind of word means and had some hands on experience using these parts of speech.
Math: This week we are starting topic 3, Subtraction Strategies. In this unit students will learn strategies to help them with their speed and accuracy when subtracting.
Home-School Connection:
1. Reading/Writing - While students are reading for homework each night, have them find a list of nouns, verbs, or adjectives in their book. A paper to record your words is included in your homework packet.
2. Math - Keep practicing your math facts at home. Try out Math Facts in a Flash, a computer-based program, that students use at school. Check it out here: Portland Home School Connect
